This is based on a theory of development which looks at how the things we have learned from other people shaped our own beliefs and behaviour. It is also a theory of the parts of personality, suggesting that we have three main perspectives for our behaviour or thought processes, the Adult, which is the here and now, the Parent which is the part of personality where judgments are made and rules are followed, particularly the things we learned from our parents, and the Child, which is how we learned to get what we wanted in childhood. TA theory offers methods of finding out about the hidden influences on our life, and the patterns we repeat throughout life.
