What is Hypnosis?
It’s a state of awareness. Hypnosis feels different for everybody, so can be difficult to describe, but you don’t have to actually do anything, so you can’t get it wrong. The body is usually relaxed, with the mind focused on one idea. You remain in control of yourself and can be aware of what is going on all the time.
We may enter a light hypnotic state often, such as when becoming so absorbed in a TV programme or book that we don’t notice that someone is speaking to us.

Hypnosis is used in therapy to focus totally on the issues to be dealt with. The subconscious, which controls all the automatic, invisible processes, can be contacted directly.

Because the body is relaxed, and the eyes closed, and ears focussed on the issues being dealt with, input to the brain is minimal, so all available energy is concentrated on the work to be done. This makes suggestions for beneficial change more powerfully received by the subconscious.

If a suggestion was made in hypnosis which went against what the person consciously wants, or what is best for them, it would be immediately rejected, so there is no possibility of unwanted control by the therapist, or harm. You will not do or say anything you don’t want to.

So there is no special feeling associated with hypnosis, no loss of awareness of what is happening and no loss of control.


What is hypnoanalysis?
A way of using hypnosis to help you solve problems or make desired changes in your life. Hypnosis allows your subconscious to communicate its secrets to you.

We are born with a personality, which creates unconscious biases in what we perceive, believe and remember. From birth and possibly before, facts, procedures and experiences are stored in memory as templates, for economy.

Many things are learnt from other people, who apply their beliefs, which are based on their personality and experiences. These storage processes are automatic and usually unconscious, and templates are often built before the age of seven. Life looks different to a child than it does to an adult.

Every experience is measured against existing templates and if matches are found, we behave in the same way we did before. If something new happens we build a new template.

So we often go through life unconsciously behaving in the way we always have, thinking and believing as we have always done, without realising that those templates do not serve our best interests.

The results can be anxiety, stress, phobias, fears, low confidence, under achievement or other unwanted difficulties.

Hypnoanalysis allows you to discover these templates, which can sometimes become consciously available, but sometimes are not. Either way, desired beneficial changes can be made to improve your life and health.

Hypnotherapy can help with many problems.
Some better known examples are:

Weight management; healthy eating, motivation to exercise, discovering any associated beliefs or thoughts which make it difficult to maintain an ideal weight.

Habit control; such as smoking or nail biting and other habitual behaviours;

Fears or Phobias; including spiders, claustrophobia, agoraphobia, flying, driving, overcome stage fright, fears of authority figures and the many other fears and phobias which can affect people’s enjoyment of their life;

Confidence; such as social anxiety and social phobia, blushing, confidence with the opposite, same or preferred sex, confidence with authority figures, confidence at work, in particular situations or with particular tasks.

Goal achievement; find a better job, be better at sport, write that book, be more organised, exam and driving test confidence;

Finding lost things; objects and memories;

Finding lost personalities; when life has affected you to the extent that you are no longer sure who you are, or when you know who you are but for some reason are unable to be that person.
