Hypnosis is a completely safe, natural state of awareness in which the body is relaxed and the mind totally focused on one thing.
This focused emotional state aligns the conscious mind and the subconscious mind so they communicate with each other, allowing information to flow between the two. Changes to unconscious and conscious belief patterns and emotional states can then easily be made, if required.
There is no single recognised feeling associated with hypnosis, and everyone experiences it in their own unique way. Because many people have an expectation of what hypnosis feels like, it can sometimes leads people to believe they are not in hypnosis when they are.
There are different levels or depths of hypnosis, ranging from a light state, for example when you are completely absorbed by something you are watching on the TV, to a deep level hypnosis which can be used instead of anaesthesia during surgery. A hypnotherapist can assist you to reach the deeper levels of hypnosis, but how deep you go depends on how deep you wish to go. You remain in control, and cannot be controlled by a hypnotherapist.
